about

About the song:
The song “Humble Ego” started as an instrumental rock piece consisting of multiple connected themes composed by Matsi. The song was composed and changed over a four year period, with contributions by each member along the way. The song was finally pared down to four sections by the urging of Igor, who felt the multitude of melodies characterized multiple songs, not just one. This left (at the time) Parts 1 & 2 in place to be melodic instrumental introductions building to the lyrics in Part 3 and Rap + Jam in Part 4. The final version of the song builds melodic phrases around these four themes and dynamic momentum.

On the day of the recording session, Igor's close friend & old band mate, Josh B., flew in from Pennsylvania for the studio sessions & contribute vocals. In the days prior to the session, the song had really spoken to Josh as he became more acquainted with our live recordings. So much so, the he was inspired to pen lyrics for part 1 and also developed a loose concept for part 2. It was immediately understood the song was more complete by these new contributions and agreed to be added in vocal takes. That moment encompasses the essence of a Humble Ego. It would have been easy to dismiss an eleventh hour addition on studio day to a song that was written over 4 years, but it was a missing piece of the puzzle!

The song concept is built around the opposing attributes of humbleness taming the possessive ego, while still living up to one's highest potential. The message is focused on maintaining a grounded & balanced outlook while navigating life, relations, and possessions.

Humble Ego also captures a lot of musical influences from the respective band members: From Red Hot Chili Peppers, to Pink Floyd, & to Phish. In the end, it captures a rare honest original. This is studio gold!

lyrics

Lyrics:

Keep your eyes on where you're going.
Don't lose sight of where you're from!
Keep the fire inside you growing.
You let it burn out and you're done!

Taste a little humility.
Can't escape from reality.
Are you feeling the gravity?
Take a shot of humility!

Humble Ego. Get your feet back on the ground! (get 'em on the ground)
It comes & It goes. Like a mighty wind it blows.
Go with the flow. But, don’t forget to row. (Don't forget. Don't forget.)

Humble Ego. Get your feet back on the ground!
Go with the flow. But, don’t forget...
Don't forget the ones you know.

Humble Ego… Now, here we go.

Hip, Hip, Hit, Hit. Stop, Stop, Stop, Stop. Show me, Show me, Show me, Show me, Show me what you got! Got!
Flip, Flip, Flip, Flip, Flop, Flop, Flop. Getcha, Getcha, Getcha, Getcha, Get it while it's hot! Hot!

If I had a dollar for every time I made her holla, I’d be runnin’ up a tab. Dam, it makes me mad! ‘Cause it used be a pro.
Now, I’m trippin’ on my flow with my humble ego.
Yo, Say it ain’t so! They say it’s all for show? But, I bet you didn’t know that I’m searchin’ for a hash-tag with a trash mag and a Gucci handbag. Was it really just a fad? Say, it’s just a fad...

Was it just a fad Y'all? Was it just a fad Y'all?
